Is old Bailey's Irish Cream safe to drink? - White and Green Ceramic Floral Mug

Will it poison a person to accidentally drink some Bailey's Irish Cream that is way past the expiration date? I am wondering if it will make me ill?

Best Answer

Does it smell off? Has the bottle been opened? More than a year past the expiration date?

  • If not, cheers!
  • Else use common sense. If in doubt, ditch it.

But it WILL make you ill if you drink too much ;-)

Quick Answer about "Is old Bailey's Irish Cream safe to drink?"

Would you use any cream that is long past its best before date? The answer to all these questions is no. Expired Baileys is not ok to drink and could potentially make you ill. Yes, the alcohol will help keep the drink fresh, but eventually (after around 2 years), the dairy within the beverage will sour and go bad.

Will old Baileys make you sick?

Though it may not taste quite as good as before. On the other hand, if your Bailey's has not only expired but has curdled, we do not recommend drinking it. Not only that but it is also likely to make you sick or give you a stomach upset.

What happens if you drink spoiled Irish cream?

If your Baileys has not only expired but has also definitely gone bad, it is not a good idea to drink it. Curdled cream can make you sick, though it's not likely to do any lasting damage. It will probably taste sour and unappealing though.

How can you tell if Baileys Irish cream is bad?

Pour a bit into a clear glass and check for coagulation or separation. If it looks like cottage cheese, say goodbye. Irish cream that has gone bad will also look darker and thicker than normal. If you don't notice any changes in color and texture, check the taste.

Does Irish cream liqueur go bad?

Unlike hard liquors like whiskey or vodka, liqueurs don't last forever. Each bottle of Irish cream should have a best-by date on the label and that's a pretty good starting point. In most cases, provided the bottle is unopened, the liqueur should be fine for at least two years after bottling.
